Sissinghurst Castle Garden

Nimrod Lodge is just 3 miles from the world famous Sissinghurst Castle Garden.

"Historic, poetic, iconic; a refuge dedicated to beauty. Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson fell in love with Sissinghurst Castle and created a world renowned garden."

National Trust 2016

The National Trust was given care of Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson's iconic castle and gardens in 1967. Once a Saxon pig farm, the castle garden has also been a prison, a working farm managed by the Women's Land Army and public gardens in the late 1930's. Vita charged 1 shilling admission and visitors would often leave their admission money in an old tobacco tin on a table under the entrance archway. Vita called her visitors "shillingses".

Today, the National Trust offers a full visitor experience - restaurant serving food with vegetables grown in the castle grounds, plant shop, gift shop and of course access to the estate of 460 acres of beautiful Wealden countryside.

Nimrod Lodge is only 3 miles from Sissinghurst Castle Gardens and is the perfect base to visit the National Trust property on more than one occasion as there is so much to see and explore.

Visiting Tips

During summer visitor numbers are heavy with queues at garden opening time. We recommend taking a trip over lunchtime or in the afternoon when numbers in the garden are lower, giving you more space to explore the garden.

If you are staying with us at Nimrod Lodge you can split your visit over a few days as we are so close.

You might consider becoming a member of the National Trust, you will save money if you are planning on visiting other National Trust properties nearby. Here are the other attractions close to Nimrod Lodge:
